Mayor McGinn to launch service plan at BHIS Friday

As part of the United Way Day of Caring, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn will join school Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson and United Way of King County CEO Jon Fine at Beacon Hill International School, 2025 14th Avenue South. Events get underway tomorrow, Friday the 24th, at 2 PM in front of the main school office.

The Mayor will be launching Seattle’s Citywide Service Plan, said to be a series of volunteer service initiatives to benefit education and youth development.

Thanks, David!

  1. There will be Day of Caring events at Dr. Jose Rizal Park and the Beacon Bluff P-Patch today, as well as the mountain view site on Cheasty.

It would be nice to see these events mentioned on this blog.

Dr. Jose Rizal Park was recently chosen by City Fruit as one of its demonstration orchard projects, one of two in the South End, the other being Martha Washington Park.

The off-leash area in Dr. Jose Rizal Park needs a new OLA steward – with the Mountains to Sound Trail construction finally scheduled to begin next year, there will be changes to the OLA, so dog owners and lovers, this is a good time to start planning.

  2. Hi Craig, I was still waiting on some further information from you on the City Fruit thing — I emailed you about it a while ago.

  3. 90 volunteers worked in the orchard this past Friday and Saturday, with a City Fruit arborist helping out on Friday. Monday, someone from City Fruit may do an inspection – awaiting a time.

Wendi, would you and Jason like to go for a walk in the area?
