Orca Reading Club welcomes Beacon Hill kids

Neighborhood kids are invited to take part in the Orca Reading Club at the Beacon Hill and Columbia City libraries. All kids are welcome; it’s not limited to Orca students. Books will be provided, and students will work toward prices including books and entries into a raffle for lunch with Mayor McGinn.

Upcoming reading club meetings are scheduled for:

  • July 19, 10-11:30 a.m., Beacon Hill Library
  • July 30, 6-7:30 p.m., Columbia City Library
  • August 16, 10-11:30 a.m., Beacon Hill Library
  • August 27, 6-7:30 p.m., Columbia City Library

  1. Thanks for spreading the word, Wendy! The purpose of the Reading Club is to provide a space for elementary age readers to read together, keep summer learning alive, and make new friends. It’s totally free, and not fancy at all. We’ve had three reading clubs so far, two at BH library and one at CC library. It’s informal, free and fun! We’ve had different kids show up each time, and the reading energy has been so fun. And yes, it’s open to all kids, from all schools! Many of the kids who have shown up have been from Orca, since that’s where my kids go to school, and that’s my main connection. It’s been tough to advertise since the library won’t allow me to post things there (since it’s not officially sponsored by the library), so I do hope you all can spread the word for the last ones coming up this summer.
