Hiroshi’s opens to serve Japanese food at 15th and Beacon

A new restaurant has opened at 15th and Beacon, in part of the building that was once the Beacon Hill Library. Hiroshi’s opened yesterday with a sign in the window promising “Japanese Food, Take Out, Deli, Catering,” not to mention a big blue neon sign that says “Sushi.” We haven’t been able to try it out yet and probably won’t be able to for a few days, so if you check it out, tell us what you think!

  1. That’s great. Teriyaki on the hill would be nice. I keep meaning to ask if anyone knows what’s going in where the old fish shop used to be, next to Victrola. Driving by the other day I noticed it was completely gutted out and being remodeled, including the entryway.

  2. Hiroshi’s for dinner! Thanks for the heads up, I hadn’t realized there was construction going in there!

The menu is smaller than on their old website, and it’s take out only – an order counter, a pass through window and a big kitchen….Smaller menu, smaller portions, smaller prices – fish looks fresh and they made karaage for me, and it’s not on their new take out menu….

On the down side, I had to squeeze past a cluster of guys playfully hassling each other at the front door, but no harm.

I’ll go back, I hope they make it on the Hill – looks like maybe their kitchen is configured for the catering side of business….

As for the old fish shop? Between Victrola and the hair salon? It’s being remodeled for one of the Chinese family associations. Rent in Chinatown is going up and the elders can no longer trudge up stairs to get to their family association club houses, so they’re finding storefronts on Beacon Hill to move into.

This comment is wrong in many ways. It can be said that the ongoing gentrification of Chinatown is forcing longtime community members and family to look elsewhere for community space. Why not move to Beacon Hill where these longtime pioneering Chinese Family’s were forced to stay put and not buy into any other Seattle neighborhoods. Sure it would be nice not to climb such steep stairwells as is commonly found in Chinatown buildings. That in itself is not a reason to leave Chinatown, and moving to Beacon Hill allows for more presence of longtime residents that seem to have been forgotten about.

  4. Since we are highjacking this thread…anyone know what is the future of the now closed ABC Market also at 15th and Beacon?

  5. The old ABC Market re-opens this week. There’s also a taqueria inside with a Salvadoran spin. Anyway, it’s a nice taco option protected from wind and rain. BTW, Hiroshi’s needs a sign in a bad way. I had to resort to the street number to find it. Good food (and Japanese style curry.)
