I might entirely be breaking an unwritten rule of this forum for posting this, but I'm willing to learn a hard lesson right off the bat.

I wanted to say hello and introduce myself as a [not so new] neighbor. My wife and I have been living in Beacon Hill for over a year now and absolutely love the neighborhood.

I'm specifically interested in reaching out to others around Beacon Hill to engage in service projects for folks and places in need (any sort of need!). I'm also interested in learning more about the community, and how I can be more active in it.

I apologize if I broke an unwritten law of this forum, but something tells me I'll get grace for my first offense! Laugh I look forward to taking part in this forum in the future.

Hi Colin!
A great place to find out about neighborhood opportunities is the North Beacon Hill Council meeting. The meetings are held at the Beacon Hill Library at 7pm the first Thursday of each month. July 2nd is the next meeting.
Hope to see you there!
Best,

Hi Colin! I think it's great that you're reaching out via the forum.

Some volunteer/service ideas: we have two food banks on the Hill, one at El Centro, one south (Beacon Ave Food Bank). Organize a food drive on your block, at work, etc. Ask what they need/who they serve and target your drive. Rice, peanut butter, beans, dairy, etc are always welcome.

You could also organize a block party on National Night Out, 8/4. I'm working that night, but it would be great to have some neighborhood action.

We're near 18th & McClellan. Howdy, neighbor!

Melissa, thanks again for your suggestion about National Night Out. I'm planning a block party for that night and I'll post more info in a separate thread.
