Lights, caroling and Santa brighten up Beacon Hill junction

Santa Claus will bring holiday lights to an often-dark corner of the neighborhood at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, when Santa and Beacon Hill neighbors light the community tree at the corner of 15th Avenue S. and Beacon Avenue South.

The tree lighting isn’t the only festive activity — the event will also include caroling, dancing, and holiday treats, including specials at local businesses.

During the event, donations to the Red Cross for Typhoon Haiyan relief will be accepted at Inay’s.

  1. As a resident of Beacon Hill I heard this was happening but didn’t know when it was going to happen. I think that it was a BIG waste of money to decorate half a tree & also felt it VERY disrespectful to El Centro de la Raza for they have started a Tree Lighting ceremony that happens each year.(which I have been attending every year) I think the money used to decorate half a tree could have gone to better use supporting El Centro de la Raza who provides a Hot meal along with a full eve of activities and entertainment!

  2. It costs practically nothing to decorate a tree, and Beacon Hill certainly has room for more than one tree. With that said, this tree is, well, ugly. White lights on a brightly lit street? Yawn. Same for the tree at 16th by the taco truck, across from the station. Liven it up a bit. If I want white lights, I’ll look at the streetlights. I want some colored lights.
