um, ok, I’m gonna go ahead and sound like a total web neophyte and ask: what the heck is Twitter, and how’s it any different from this blog? I don’t get what the purpose is of Twitter–could you give the lame-o non-tech-savvy folks like me an introduction and tutorial?
The Twitter FAQ says:
“Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”
But more to the point, it’s a communication mechanism based around 140-character-or-less “tweets” of conversation or announcements that integrates with Instant Messaging and SMS text messaging, useful as a way of keeping up on your friends or on topics you’re interested in “following”.
It’s certainly no requirement to use with this blog, but it provides an ancillary mechanism of staying up-to-date on postings here (if you’d rather not use an RSS reader or remember to visit the site all the time), or to follow in a more real-time manner bloggy minutia or as a way to arrange spur-of-the-moment meet-ups for a beer or whatever.
Clear as mud? 🙂
