Meet your 11th District legislators at town hall event

Residents of the 11th Legislative District, which includes part of Beacon Hill, are invited to participate in a town hall conversation this weekend hosted by Senator Bob Hasegawa, Representative Zack Hudgins and Representative Steve Bergquist.

The town hall will take place in Renton at the King County Regional Communications and Emergency Coordination Center (3511 NE 2nd Street, Renton, WA 98056) this Saturday, March 16 from 1 to 2 p.m.

The three legislators will take questions and comments as well as give an update on the 2013 legislative session.

Help plan Food Forest Gathering Plaza

bff_logo-web_full_webThe Friends of the Beacon Food Forest invite all interested neighbors to a meeting this Saturday, March 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. to help design the Forest’s Gathering Plaza. At the meeting, the community will have an opportunity to give opinions and share design ideas about structures to be built at the Food Forest site this spring.

The meeting is at Jefferson Community Center, 3801 Beacon Ave. S. It will be facilitated by the UW Design/Build Group and the Friends of the Beacon Food Forest.

It is again time for the monthly meeting of the North Beacon Hill Council, tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at the Beacon Hill Library.

Opinions wanted on Plaza Roberto Maestas project

El Centro de la Raza and the Plaza Roberto Maestas design team are hosting a community meeting on Thursday, February 21 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at El Centro’s room 309.

This is the next in a series of community meetings to discuss the redevelopment project on El Centro de la Raza’s south parking lot located on Roberto Maestas Festival Street next to the Link station. Plans for this meeting are to review the feedback so far and to present the latest design for additional community feedback. The intent is for the project to enter the city’s Design Review process this spring.

Childcare and translation will be available upon request, and refreshments and light snacks will be served. El Centro de la Raza is located at 2524 16th Ave. S.

Input wanted on Food Forest educational signs

All interested neighbors are invited to a community meeting this Saturday, February 9 from 12 to 2 p.m. to give feedback on educational signs in the Beacon Food Forest. Designers Molly Danielsson and Mathew Lippincott will be on hand at El Centro de la Raza (2524 16th Ave S) to hear your thoughts on the signs’ proposed materials and concepts. Snacks will be provided.

The Friends of Beacon Food Forest recently received a $12,600 grant to create educational signs for the Food Forest. The signs will provide information about the ecological and social processes behind the Food Forest. The signs will be installed in July 2013.

Safety, broadband, Quieter Skies on agenda for NBHC meeting

The agenda has been announced for the monthly North Beacon Hill Council meeting, to take place Tuesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. in the Beacon Hill Library community meeting room. All interested neighbors are invited to attend and participate.

Here’s the planned agenda:

  • Department of Neighborhoods updates
  • Broadband/Internet Service (guest speakers from CenturyLink and others to speak)

Eat chili, talk Lewis Park on Tuesday

Friends and neighbors of Lewis Park are invited to come see the community’s proposed park design and give your opinions while enjoying a cup of chili with cornbread. The event is Tuesday, January 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Garden House, 2336 15th Ave. S.

All are invited to socialize and try the chili; you may bring your own to test your cooking skill! The top chili choice will be announced at the end of the evening.

Part 150 Noise Study update at 1/22 Port Commission Meeting

The Port of Seattle Commission’s January 22 meeting (agenda) will include an update on Sea-Tac Airport’s Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study.

The Part 150 study will be used to develop a plan for reducing noise impacts from the airport wherever possible, and to limit future noise impact. According to the announcement, Tuesday’s update at the Port Commission meeting “will include information on the draft recommended options for reducing aircraft noise in the new proposed noise remedy area around the airport.”

Information about the current study, which should be completed later this year, is on the website.

The meeting will be held at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Conference Center International Auditorium on Tuesday, January 22. The public part of the meeting starts at 2 p.m. See the agenda for further information.
