Beacon Rocks again on sunny Sunday

The second Beacon Rocks! music event happened yesterday at the Lander Festival Street. Here are some of the images of the day:

Last but not least, here’s a brief video clip Jason made of the Screaming Starts. It’s a bit rough, but it gives you a taste of the event. (The video quality improves about halfway through.) If anyone recorded any of the other acts, please let us know so we can link to them too..

The next Beacon Rocks! is this Sunday, July 11, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Bring your lawn chairs, your friends, and your ears to the Lander Festival Street just north of the Beacon Hill light rail station where there will be performances from local musicians and dancers, food from local businesses, activities for the kids, and general Beacon Hill summer fun!

This week’s performers include The Students of Skin Deep Dance, Seattle Fandango Project, Autumn Electric, JJ DelSerra, Beaconettes, Jack Lenoir and friends, and the Screaming Starts.

Volunteers are still needed for the event, including help with organizing, fundraising, publicity, managing T-shirts, talking with neighbors and businesses, event set-up, and clean-up. Email beaconrocks@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer.

You can help Beacon Hill rock

Paul Ray of Beacon Hill Music writes, “Now that we’ve had our first successful Beacon Rocks! event, we are ready to fine tune things for the July 11th event and those to follow. Beacon Hill Music could use some help to build on what we’ve started.” Anyone who is interested in helping out with the Beacon Rocks! music series is invited to the organizational meeting tonight at 5:30 pm at The Station coffee house, 2533 16th Avenue South (just north of Beacon Hill Station and across from El Centro). If you can’t make it tonight, email beaconrocks@gmail.com to find out about other ways you can help the event.

The next one is on July 11, from 1:00 – 5:00 pm, and will include the Beaconettes, Autumn Electric, the Screaming Starts, and tribal belly dance by Skin Deep Studios.

Beacon Rocks! rolling onward

Beacon Hill Music logo The Beacon Rocks! music series project planned for this summer is moving full-speed ahead. Beacon Hill Music, the community group that is putting the event together, has been awarded a Small Sparks Fund grant. The Small Sparks Fund of the Department of Neighborhoods provides awards of up to $1,000 to support community efforts such as events and neighborhood organizing. They have awarded Beacon Hill Music $860 for the “Beacon Rocks!” series, which will pay for the permits for all four events this summer.

There are two fundraisers for Beacon Hill Music: a Backyard Party scheduled for Sunday, May 16 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm, and a Dance Party on Saturday, May 22 from 7:00 pm “till we drop”. To RSVP for either event and get addresses and other information, email beaconrocks@gmail.com.

The final Beacon Idol event of 2010 is Saturday May 29 at 7:00 pm. If you live, work, or go to school in Beacon Hill, you can audition for Beacon Rocks! at the Beacon Idol event. If you’re not a performer, come and cheer the contestants on. The event will be at ROCKiT Space, 3315 Beacon Avenue South.

The Beacon Rocks! shows are a free, outdoor, family-friendly Beacon-centric music series, including all styles of music, and will be held on June 13, July 11, August 8, and August 29 at the new Festival Street next to Beacon Hill Station at Beacon Avenue South and South Lander Street.
