This Wednesday, October 15, David Mura will be reading from his novel Famous Suicides of the Japanese Empire at the Beacon Hill Library, 2821 Beacon Ave. S., at 6:30 pm. I haven’t read this book yet, but I did read his Turning Japanese: Memoirs of a Sansei some years ago, and it was quite good.
Buggy birthday invitation
Heather and Sarah of Buggy, your local baby feed & tack, are pleased to invite the neighborhood to help celebrate Buggy’s first birthday tomorrow, Sunday, October 12th. There will be live music by Brian Vogan, as well as free cupcakes and coffee. The celebrating starts at 11:30am. Buggy is located at 3315 Beacon Avenue South. For more information, call 206-325-5999.
Thanks to Sarah for the announcement list posting!
Rider’s eye view of Link light rail
I was excited to see this time-lapse video of a trip from Othello Station almost all the way to the Tukwila light rail station:
I can’t wait for the train to open to the public — I just wish we would get more train lines, and faster! But this one will be great for getting from Beacon Hill to the airport, downtown, the stadiums, and just about anywhere in between. Next summer can’t get here quickly enough, as far as I’m concerned.
Via Seattle Transit Blog — thanks!
Leafy larceny
Garden burglaries on the Hill, recently discussed on the neighborhood mailing list, are the subject of a brief article in this week’s Weekly: “Thyme Bandits.” (Give that headline writer a prize!) I have some lawn clippings and cut blackberry vines here, if someone would like to steal them… please?
Flapjacks for the future
Come have a pancake and sausage breakfast and discuss the “Town Center” possibilities surrounding the new Lander Street tunnel station. Breakfast is graciously hosted by Beacon Hill Pedestrians next Saturday, October 18th, from 9:30am to 1pm at El Centro de la Raza (North entrance). For more information, contact BHP at 206-323-1792.
Thanks to Robert Hinrix for the list posting and BHP for the postcard!
Bring out your dead… electronics
eWaste Center, newly open at 660 South Othello in Georgetown, is hosting a free electronics waste disposal event on Saturday, October 11th, from 9am to 3pm. You can drop off old PCs, monitors, VCRs, televisions, etc. for disposal or recycling. For further information, call EWC at (206) 767-9950.
Thanks to Maria D. and Warren Yee from the list for the information!
Hello Beacon Hill!
Welcome to the Beacon Hill Blog. We’re just getting started here, putting together the pieces we hope will become a useful resource for our neighborhood. In the meantime, we encourage you to join the neighborhood mailing list(s).
The blog may be a little rough around the edges for a bit — we’ll be adding and improving things as time goes on. We hope you like it!
