Today is a good day to get out of the house! (But don’t go too far — unless you’re running in the Rock and Roll Marathon! The Marathon will run on South Jackson Street and Rainier Avenue South until 3 p.m., which means you should avoid driving in that area.)
First, The Rainier Valley Cooperative Preschool is holding a rummage sale from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 1720 South Forest Street with lots of goodies to purchase from your neighbors.
Then at 1, head over to Lewis Park for a “Thank You Beacon Hill” party from 1-5. You can chow down on delicious barbecued hot dogs, including vegetarian and vegan dogs. The good eats are sponsored by Hilltop Red Apple, Field Roast, and The Station.
There will also be tours of the Lewis Park Natural Area offered hourly so Beacon Hill neighbors can see the progress that has been made in restoring the park.
You can find the party at the Pavilion at Daejeon Park and the south end of Lewis Park, on the corner of 16th Avenue South and South Judkins Street.
We haven’t done a Beacon Bits in a while, so here goes. This time we got a few emails from folks that we want to pass on to you. First, Jeff writes:
“Down here in S. Seattle, we have been having a litter problem. The Seattle Times has an advertising paper that they deliver by contracting it out. The delivery folks just toss it out of a moving car to every home that does not get the Times. This creates an unsightly mess, as well as advertising when people are out of town.
“I have contacted the Times multiple times, to no avail. They insist it is their right to litter our neighborhood! I know of several other neighborhoods adversely affected by this issue as well. I started an on-line petition. Can you please post it to your Blog and ask folks to both sign it, and disseminate it through emails or social media such as Facebook? This is an issue all Seattle neighborhoods should be concerned about and can work together on. Here is the link to the petition.

“I would like everyone to know that I have started my new business on Beacon Hill and I want to thank the people who supported me ‘Frank’s Hot Dogs’ on Saturday, my first day of business. I put the cart, on the South/East corner lot of the El Centro de la Raza, east of the taco trailer or right next to it. For my first day it was fun, even though it rained the whole time I was open, I still enjoyed being there. I want to let everyone know, that I wanted to be open Monday through Friday, 11:00 to at least 5:00, possibly Saturday and closed on Sunday. Because the restaurant, El Quetzal where I do my clean up, is closed on Mondays, I will now be open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 to at least 5:00. Then, at 9:00 pm, on Saturday nights, I will be on Beacon Ave. at El Quetzal until after the bars close.”

The Tippe and Drague Alehouse at 3315 Beacon Ave. S., which opened last weekend to a throng of thirsty Beaconians, recently filed a new liquor license application, adding an new endorsement that wasn’t on their earlier license application. The previous license applied for was â€œdirect shipment receiver — in Washington onlyâ€ (which allows them to buy beer and/or wine from federally certified wineries or breweries), â€œrestaurant â€“ beer and wineâ€ (which allows them to sell beer and wine for on-premises consumption in conjunction with food sales). They are now applying to add an off-premises endorsement (which will allow them to sell beer and/or wine for off-premises consumption in original containers, as well as allowing them to sell tap beer to purchasers who provide their own containers, subject to certain restrictions.
The applicants are Tippe and Drague LLC, Melissa Cabal and Robert McConaughy, and the license number is 407765. As with all liquor license applications, if you wish to comment on the application to the Liquor Control Board, you can e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
